Why was Dahlia chosen as the Flower of Mexico?

The Dahlia was adopted to be the national flower of Mexico due to the following reasons:
  • It is very ancient in Mexican and Aztec culture (their tubers were food).
  • It thrives well in the climate of Mexico and it has a great diversity of forms and colors.
  • It was made to be a symbol of national identity, dignity and creativity and it fit in with Flower of Mexico symbolism.
